April 7th marks the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

For survivors like myself, this day will always be remembered as the moment our world shattered—the beginning of unbearable pain and unimaginable atrocities. In those dark days, our loved ones were brutally murdered, and the silence that followed was filled with grief that words can never fully express.

Even after 31 years, the wounds are still present. The memories don’t fade—they live within us. Healing hasn’t been easy. It’s a long and painful journey that we continue to walk each and every day. And yet, in our sorrow, we have found strength. We have found the courage to live, despite all we endured.

By sharing our stories, we reclaim our voices. We honor those we lost. We remind the world what hatred can do—and what love, courage, and resilience can overcome. Preserving the memory of the genocide is not only our duty—it is a call to humanity. A call to educate, to reflect, and to ensure that “never again” truly means never again.

Through remembrance—#Kwibuka—we plant seeds of empathy and compassion. And with hope, we build a future free from hatred.
